Hayes Carll at Prescott Park Arts Festival

Texas native Hayes Carll has written rousers (“One Bed, Two Girls, Three Bottles of Wine”) and rockers (“Stomp and Holler”). He had a swaying, reckless, unpolished way of writing, but his latest record – Lovers and Leavers – strips back the layers to reveal the quiet perfection of ‘normal’ life after the doors to the last honky-tonk on your too-long tour close. It revels in time shared in the company of those you love and sometimes leave, like the simple enchantment of watching your young son master a new card trick.
