SUMMARY:Ethan Lipton: No Place to Go
DESCRIPTION:NO PLACE TO GO’s 2012 premiere at The Public Theater was celebrated as one of the most unique and deeply relevant musical theater works to arrive in years. The company where he’s worked for the past 10 years is moving to another planet\, and Ethan Lipton doesn’t want to go. Part love letter to his co-workers\, part query to the universe\, part protest to company and country\, NO PLACE TO GO delivers an irreverent and personal musical ode to the unemployed. \n \nOne of NYC’s most loved live bands\, the songs of Ethan Lipton & His Orchestra are steeped in American traditions of yore (jazz\, blues\, country\, lounge)\, but his subjects are thoroughly modern (internet romance\, racism\, pets\, police). It all adds up to a hilariously cockeyed view of an odd\, disjointed age\, combining the political wit of Woody Guthrie with the writing chops of Woody Allen. Popmatters calls Lipton\, “A sardonic voice that offers an unlikely kind of comfort against the vagaries of everyday life.” Lipton is joined by his incomparable “Orchestra” of Eben Levy (guitar)\, Ian Riggs (upright bass) & Vito Dieterle (sax).

SUMMARY:Anything Goes
DESCRIPTION:ALL ABOARD for this saucy and splendid production of ANYTHING GOES\, winner of three 2011 Tony Awards® including Best Musical Revival and Choreography!  One of the greatest musicals in theater history\, Cole Porter’s first-class musical comedy has been  been hailed as “MUSICAL-COMEDY JOY” (The New York Times)  “GLORIOUS and EXUBERANT!” (USA TODAY) \nWhen the S.S. American heads out to sea\, etiquette and convention get tossed out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love…proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors\, an exotic disguise and some good old-fashioned blackmail.  Peppering this timeless classic are some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards\, including “I Get A Kick Out Of You\,” “You’re the Top\,” and of course\, “Anything Goes.”  Don’t miss what the AP exclaims as\, “So DELIGHTFUL\, So DELICIOUS\, So DE-LOVELY!”

SUMMARY:Primus and the Chocolate Factory
DESCRIPTION:Primus and the Chocolate Factory with The Fungi Ensemble\n \nLes Claypool of Primus confesses that he’s always sort of wanted to be Willy Wonka. So when it came time for the band to record a new album\, this staple of Claypool’s young life naturally floated to the surface. “One thought I had\,” says Claypool\, “was to take on some kind of sacred cow and twist it into something of our own.” \n\n\n\nIn order to get the full depth that he envisioned for the music\, Claypool called up two celebrated players from his multi-band roster — Mike Dillon and Sam Bass. Reunited with drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander and guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde\, this reinforced version of Primus set about recording what would become Primus and the Chocolate Factory. \n\n\n\n“The notion wasn’t so much to go in and redo the soundtrack note for note as much as it was to utilize the classic elements of the music yet try to reflect some of the darker undertones of the Roald Dahl books\, because when you read those books\, there is an eerie and somewhat menacing aspect implied.” \nThe result is an orchestral homage to Gene Wilder and David L. Wolper’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory – plus\, Claypool adds\, “it gives me an excuse to wear a purple\, velvet waistcoat and brown top hat for the next 18 months.”

SUMMARY:Citizen Cope & William Fitzsimmons
DESCRIPTION:William Fitzsimmons – 8pm\nFitzsimmons’ easy voice\, which falls somewhere between the breathy earnestness of Sufjan Stevens and the steady\, deep water thrum of Iron and Wine’s Sam Beam\, has a knack for crafting incredibly measured\, deeply personal\, largely finger-picked folk confections that flirt with adult-oriented pop without losing any of their artisan luster. His newest album\, Lions\, produced by Death Cab for Cutie’s Chris Walla\, is meticulously crafted\, high-quality daydream fuel. \nCitizen Cope – 9:30pm\nCitizen Cope’s sounds are southern rural\, big sky lonely\, concrete urban\, and painfully romantic. From the get-go\, he introduced his audiences to a world of musical worry with his breakout song “Sideways\,” that was covered by Carlos Santana. His motivation has always been to make music in front of people\, and it has won him a vast audience in America and abroad. \nPortsmouth Singer Songwriter Festival\nThe excitement returns for a fourth year as one unforgettable Spring weekend showcases a packed three-day festival in downtown Portsmouth\, NH.

SUMMARY:Songwriters in the Round
DESCRIPTION:Guest curated by Guy Capecelatro III\, this special evening will showcase the talents of four immensely talented songwriters. \nGUY CAPECELATRO III\n\nGuy picked up the guitar when he was 10 years old\, allegedly “never getting any better at it” after 20-something years of playing. Between 1988 and the birth of his record label Two Ton Santa\, Guy was in the bands Fancy Pants\, Toast\, Size of Guam\, The Driveways\, Up-a-Tree\, Beekeeper\, The Pants\, Bob & Guy\, and The Crotch Wax Menace. With his ingenious talents spanning the flowerbeds and the nervously approached stage\, one might never guess this songwriter/performer/landscaper also has a mean forehand in Ultimate Frisbee\, once raced Motorcross bikes\, and was on the wrestling team in high school. Between all that\, running Two Ton Santa Records\, and cameos at The Friendly Toast in Portsmouth\, NH\, he continues to write his mostly abbreviated songs\, which he lovingly describes as “little story vehicles” – “like a paper boat. Sliding into the ocean. On fire.” \n\nMARY LOU LORD\n\nPlaying her way from the subways and streets of London and Boston\, guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Mary Lou Lord broke into the indie rock scene in 1994 on the Kill Rock Stars label. After appearing on a KRS compilation\, Lord released a self-titled EP in 1995 and a second EP\, Martian Saints\, in early 1997. Got No Shadow\, her major-label debut with Sony Music’s WORK Group\, was released in 1998. \nLord’s interest in music started as a teenager when she worked as a DJ for a college radio station in the Boston area. When the station changed format\, she decided to concentrate on making her own music. After a stint at Boston’s Berklee School of Music\, she moved to London and learned the art of busking in the subway. She moved back to Boston and continued to play mostly acoustic covers on city sidewalks and in subways. In eight years of busking\, she refined her talent and determined what music she liked to play. A KRS executive heard her and eventually signed her to the label. \n\nMARK SCHWABER\n\nMark is a professional musician (of nearly 25 years) who has toured 19 countries and worked in studios with Lloyd Cole\, Shadows Fall\, Lou Barlow\, Fred Maher\, Joan Wasser\, Matthew Sweet\, and Mary Lou Lord. Mark has also released music under the monikers Hospital and Home\, as well as two eponymous releases “Two Years and Thirty Minutes” in 2004\, and “The Killing Card” in 2006. He has also been an editorial writer for numerous media outlets\, and currently works as a tireless advocate for addiction survival and recovery. \n\nDREW O’DOHERTY\n\nDrew O’Doherty (formerly a member of Ted Leo and the Pharmacists) has a solo project with a handful of musicians that accompany him on some shows. However\, Drew also plays by himself. He has an album called ‘Starts’ (2006) available on his Bandcamp. \n\nPortsmouth Singer Songwriter Festival\nThe excitement returns for a fourth year as one unforgettable Spring weekend showcases a packed three-day festival in downtown Portsmouth\, NH.

DESCRIPTION:When country a cappella band Home Free was crowned Season 4 Champions of NBC’s The Sing-Off this past December\, their victory was by no means the beginnings of a career for the five country stars from Minnesota… rather it was a satisfying culmination of nearly a decade of hard work and commitment to a vocal craft growing in popularity. \nFounded by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp during their college years in the early 2000s\, Home Free had been perfecting their live show for years prior to The Sing-Off–performing together for crowds in countless State and County Fairs\, on college campuses\, in front of Fortune 500 companies\, and in theaters all across the country. It was their experience on the road that carried them to a Sing-Off victory\, swelling their fan base and bringing their homegrown country style into a national spotlight. \nHome Free continues to entertain audiences nationwide with their high-energy show peppered with quick-witted humor that meshes Nashville standards with pop hits dipped in country flavor.  They arrive to town on the heels of their debut release on Columbia RecordsCrazy Life Tour. \nHomeFreeVocalBand.com
