SUMMARY:"Harold and the Purple Crayon"
DESCRIPTION:“One evening\, after thinking it over for some time\, Harold decided to go for a walk in the moonlight.” So begins Harold and the Purple Crayon\, the first of seven delightful picture books by Crockett Johnson that follow the zany adventures of an inventive young boy. As it turned out\, there wasn’t any moon that night\, nor was there a path to walk on\, so Harold simply drew them. Resourceful and brave\, Harold creates the world he wants to explore\, using nothing more than a big purple crayon and his sky’s-the- limit imagination. Enchantment Theatre’s production takes audiences on a wild ride as Harold jets to Mars (shooting stars\, space ships!)\, joins a circus (he walks a tightrope!)\, and meets a king in an enchanted garden (of course\, there’s a dragon!). Using all the elements of its signature style\, which combines life-size puppets\, masks\, magic\, and music\, Enchantment Theatre Company’s production is sure to delight and amaze! \nGrades Pre-K-3\nCurriculum Connections: Language Arts\, Visual Arts\, Performing Arts

SUMMARY:Behind the Beautiful Forevers
DESCRIPTION:Meera Syal (The Kumars\, Goodness Gracious Me\, Rafta Rafta at the National) returns to the National Theatre\, directed by Rufus Norris (Broken\, London Road). \nPulitzer Prize-winner Katherine Boo spent three years in Annawadi recording the lives of its residents. From her uncompromising book\, winner of the National Book Award for Non-Fiction 2012\, David Hare has fashioned a tumultuous play on an epic scale. \nIndia is surging with global ambition. But beyond the luxury hotels surrounding Mumbai airport lies a makeshift slum\, full of people with plans of their own. Zehrunisa and her son Abdul aim to recycle enough rubbish to fund a proper house. Sunil\, twelve and stunted\, wants to eat until he’s as tall as Kalu the thief. Asha seeks to steal government anti-poverty funds to turn herself into a ‘first-class person’\, while her daughter Manju intends to become the slum’s first female graduate. \nBut their schemes are fragile; global recession threatens the garbage trade\, and another slum-dweller is about to make an accusation that will destroy herself and shatter the neighbourhood.
